26 Short Screenplays for Independent Filmmakers is a collection of short screenplay exercises that novice or experienced filmmakers can use to make their own films. All of the scripts are released under the Creative Commons license, so any films made from the book can be copyrighted by the filmmakers.

Each screenplay has an exercise type and a story attached to it. For example, the short screenplay exercise Showcase an Actress has a story that requires a strong, versatile female lead. The short screenplay exercise The Silent Film relies solely on the visual presentation of the story.

Each of the screenplays range from 1 to 10 pages, with the average screenplay running five pages. Some screenplays include storyboards to help the creative process.

Each script has a cast list, a set list, and suggestions for personalizing the project.
